The reversible aesthetics of J.W. Anderson

Inquietanti occhi rovesciati all’indietro ed educati caschetti anni 60. L’uomo vestito dall’intrigantissimo designer inglese è di quelli da far girare la testa (o storcere il naso, a seconda). Il personalissimo tributo di JW al periodo oscillante per antonomasia si traduce in una collezione che ritrova nell’oversize applicato a 360° il suo tratto più distintivo. Forme imponenti, maxi quadrettoni, galli giganti, ma anche decorazioni in corda di sapore quasi marinaresco, copricapi degni di un ipotetico palombaro che abbia perso la retta via e si sia improvvisamente ritrovato nell’atelier di uno stilista in cerca d’ispirazione.

Quello 2012-13 sarà un autunno-inverno all’insegna del flashback più atipico che possiate immaginare. Perché il nostro ha attinto a piene mani nell’immaginario della Londra di quell’epoca, che vista attraverso i suoi occhi di irlandese viene ora riletta in chiave inusuale quanto affascinante – proprio per via dell’uso inconsueto degli elementi di cui sopra.

Anderson, che ama indicare la sua missione come quella di farsi storyteller nei confronti dei propri spettatori, non esita a rivestire i suoi fedeli soldatini di una divisa che si spoglia improvvisamente di ogni accezione bon ton (come si dovrebbe addire all’epoca da cui prende spunto), rimasticando riferimenti estetici teoricamente noti per restituirci qualcosa di completamente nuovo.

Da appendere nell’armadio e ammirare di tanto in tanto.

JW’s very personal tribute to the Swingin’Era is realized through the (ab)use of the “oversized”– be it about details or shapes. Definitively something that will make your head spin (or turn up your nose, accordingly). Overwhelming silhouettes, maxi squared patterns, giant roosters stiched on sweaters, headgears that would rather belong to a deep-sea diver who got lost along his way, and accidentely found himself in the studio of an inspiration seeking designer.

AW 2012 will be marked by the most unusual flashback you could ever experience, since Our Man raided and robbed the collective imagery associated to the 60s, re-read through his Irish eyes. Fascinating and quirky at the same time, his interpretation of that period’s aesthetics is of the most enjoyable.

Anderson, who loves indicating his mission as that of a “storyteller” to his audience, doesn’t hesitate in dressing up his soldiers with a uniform completely freed from the good mannered allure embracing those years’ fashions.
