Slam Jam pays tribute to Gaznevada with a capsule collection
Available now online and in flagships in Milan and Ferrara
May 25th, 2023
After the capsule dedicated to CCCP-Faithful to the Line and their "Produce, Consume, Crack" in 2021 and the one dedicated to Devo and their "de-evolution" theory in 2023, Slam Jam continues to pay homage to music. This time it is the turn of Gaznevada, whose "Going Underground" is still an invitation not to stop at the surface, not to settle for what is predictable and obvious. It is 1976 in Bologna, a fast-paced world full of ideas and opinions. There are students, musicians, filmmakers, cartoonists, poets, and future visual artists. There is DAMS, above all, the first Italian university faculty that deals with "performing arts disciplines." The city is a magnet attracting the most promising creatives from all over Italy, all in a political situation born of the tensions linked to what will go down in history as the "Years of Lead" and in the midst of the punk subculture. At the center of all this, Gaznevada was born.
Formed from the ashes of the music collective Centro d'Urlo Metropolitano and with a name that pays homage to Raymond Chandler's short story "Nevada Gas," the band pays homage to the Ramones and Andy Warhol, ranging from punk to New York "no wave" to the electronica of the Residents and the Euro-beats of Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft. The album that comes out at the first decade of the 1980s is "Sick Soundtrack," a cross-section of their aesthetic sense represented by an essential cover with violent primary colors, but above all by a half-constructivist, half-fuel brand logo that obviously could not be missing from this capsule collection as well. The capsule itself will be presented in Milan during a public talk with a DJ set by Gaznevada (Ciro Pagano and Marco Bongiovanni) on the evening of Thursday, May 25 at Spazio Maiocchi. The capsule will be available from May 25 on slamjam.com and the Milan and Ferrara flagships.
