The new Slam Jam x Vans collaboration
A tribute to all countercultures
September 16th, 2022
The Vans Sk8-Hi has been an icon of sneaker culture since its debut in 1978, the second model produced by the Van Doren family with its famous side stripe. The sneaker was created with the performance of California skateboarders of the time in mind, but today it has become a generational symbol of street culture around the world. This is precisely why the Sk8-Hi and its aesthetic align perfectly with Slam Jam's (Un)Corporate Uniform, the ongoing research project developed by the Italian streetwear hub with the goal of understanding and helping to define the concept of uniform for a new generation of consumers.
In addition to the inversion of the colorway between inside and outside, the new Sk8-Hi model is decorated with the Slam Jam mascot tiger printed on the sole in a graphic designed by British artist Fergus Purcell aka Fergus "Fergadelic" inspired by the psychedelic works produced by George Clinton in the 1970s for Parliament/Funkadelic. The Slam Jam logo, as well as on the laces, is featured in the form of an inverted A on the sneaker's heel. Along with the new actual Sk8-Hi silhouette, a keychain reproducing the tiger mascot was also produced.
