Angela Missoni leaves the creative direction of the family brand
Alberto Caliri will be the next creative director
May 19th, 2021
Angela Missoni will leave her position as creative director of the family brand, the historic Missoni. The role will be inherited by one of his closest collaborators, Alberto Caliri, who has worked alongside him for over fifteen years, while she will remain the president of the brand. The decision was the result of two factors: the acquisition of 41.2% of the brand's shares by FSI Mid-Market Growth Equity Fund three years ago and the arrival of the new CEO, Livio Proli, during the lockdown. Obviously Missoni will remain, as it has always been, a family business: Rosita Missoni, co-founder of the brand, will continue to take care of household items; Angela's brother, Luca Missoni, will manage The Academy initiative, while his nephews, Giacomo and Ottavio Jr., will retain their roles in the company.
The reasons for this choice, which follow the similar decision of Angela's eldest daughter, Margherita Missoni, who decided to leave the brand and close the M Missoni secondary line, still seem due to issues of personal freedom: the company is solid and in good hands, the family that still manages it united and therefore Angela Missoni seems to feel comfortable delegating a certainly burdensome task to a trusted figure who has held a prominent position in the atelier of the brand for years. It will remain to be seen what will be the news that Caliri, as creative director, will be able to bring to the catwalk.
