January 11th, 2017
Boy George, Rami Malek, A$AP Rocky and Ernest Klimko are the stars of the Dior Homme SS17 advertising campaign, by Willy Vanderperre. Kris Van Assche chose a cross generational cast featuring very different celebrity, for ages and backgrounds, but united by strong and non-conformist personalities. The creative director of the French fashion house told WWD: “I really tried to translate what I think Dior Homme is right now. It's about music, it's about cinema, it's about fashion". And, commenting on the protagonists, he has spoken of his childhood hero: "It's about a certain memory I have of the Eighties that remains very much relevant for 2017 [...] Boy George, when I was a kid, was one of the first to have this message about difference being ok; he was such a major influence on my generation. That idea of freedom and being a rebel ó which he still is ó is really something that has stayed with me”. If the English artist's choice was driven by the heart, by a happy memory, the one of the actor Rami Malek is due to his charm, his beauty that, according to Van Assche, reminiscent of a Flemish painting, as well as highlight Vanderperre's studio portraits. The images which stars Russian model Ernest Klimko, one of the most popular faces of the moment, however, they were taken at night in an amusement park. Also for A$AP Rocky, a set outdoors, this time in the streets of Paris. For the rapper who here wears oversize trench coat, combat boots and patchworked jeans created by Dior in collaboration with the Japanese artist Toru Kamei, it is a return after the 2016 autumn campaign of the brand alongside Larry Clark, Rod Paradot and Dylan Roques. Simultaneously with the launch of the new advertising campaign, Dior Homme inaugurated a new Instagram account: @diorhomme.
