Kim Jones has stepped down from Dior Homme
After seven years of creative direction
January 31st, 2025
On what seemed like an ordinary Friday morning, LVMH announced at 9 AM on January 31 that Kim Jones had stepped down as the creative director of Dior Homme. A rather unexpected departure, considering that just a week earlier, Jones had presented his new FW25 collection at Paris Fashion Week. At the same time, however, some insiders had already suspected that the January 24 show was a farewell, given the grandeur of the event and the numerous references to the Maison's archives. It seemed that the “musical chairs” game had been left behind in 2024, but this announcement only reinforces rumors about a possible entry of Jonathan Anderson into LVMH's second flagship brand. Now, more than ever, all eyes are on the future of Maria Grazia Chiuri, as, according to some insiders, Anderson could take charge of both Maison lines.
Jones is considered one of the pioneers of luxury streetwear, as evidenced particularly by his creations for Dior Homme, including his collaboration with Nike, which led to the iconic Air Jordan 1 x Dior, still regarded as a “Holy Grail” among sneaker collectors worldwide. His partnership with Travis Scott also helped open up luxury to new figures and further strengthened the connection between hip-hop culture and high fashion, pushing streetwear to unexpected new heights. During his time at Dior, Jones radically revamped the men's line, which had previously adhered to classic aesthetics under Kris Van Assche’s direction. Additionally, his visionary approach often included artistic collaborations (such as the one with Kaws) and a consistent focus on innovative materials, factors that have helped make Dior Homme an influential brand, always in sync with global trends.
The future of Kim Jones is already the subject of numerous speculations: according to some, the British designer might return to his homeland to take over Burberry, although there are currently no signs of Daniel Lee stepping down. Notably, in just four months, Jones has left both LVMH brands for which he served as creative director. Back on October 11, he had already announced his departure from the womenswear division at Fendi, leaving behind collections that brought a fresh wave of modernity to the historic Roman Maison. Some wonder if further developments are on the horizon: with the recent news of Stella McCartney’s exit from the group, it seems likely that there are internal dynamics that are not entirely clear. Meanwhile, all eyes remain on Jonathan Anderson, who is currently leading the creative direction at Loewe (another LVMH brand), where he has received widespread acclaim. The next major move in the luxury landscape is now eagerly anticipated. For now, the only certainty is that Kim Jones, with his ability to merge haute couture and street culture, has left an indelible mark on Dior Homme’s recent history, earning his place in the brand’s prestigious “hall of fame” alongside Van Assche and Hedi Slimane.
