The British Fashion Awards also honoured A$AP Rocky, Sabato De Sarno and Alex Consani
December 3rd, 2024
Last night, the biggest names in fashion, luxury, and innovation gathered at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the British Fashion Council's Fashion Awards, an evening celebrating English and international fashion. The event’s most prestigious award was claimed by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of JW Anderson and the maison Loewe. With last night’s win, Anderson secured the Designer of the Year title for the second consecutive year. Among the visionaries who took home a statuette were Simone Rocha, winner of the British Womenswear category, Grace Wales Bonner, recognized in the British Menswear field, and the founders of Chopova Lowena, Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, who, thanks to the BFC Foundation Award, will receive further support for their independent brand after participating in the BFC’s NewGen talent incubator. In the emerging fashion category, Marco Capaldo of 16Arlington won for menswear, while Priya Ahluwalia of Ahluwalia was recognized for womenswear. The audience attending the British Fashion Council's Fashion Awards last night was filled with stars, celebrities, and major industry figures, including A$AP Rocky (accompanied by his wife Rihanna) and Alex Consani, who were celebrated for their significant impact on fashion in 2024 with the Cultural Innovator and Model of the Year awards, respectively. «It’s about f***ing time», commented the rapper upon receiving the award.
The event also honored some of the creatives who have left a lasting mark on international fashion over the years, such as Remo Ruffini and Tom Ford. The CEO of Moncler received the Trailblazer Award, especially recognized for the innovation demonstrated in the Moncler Genius project, while Tom Ford was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award. Sabato De Sarno, Gucci’s creative director since 2022, received a special award for the maison’s campaign We Will Always Have London, photographed by Nan Goldin and featuring Kelsey Lu and Debbie Harry, who performed some of her most iconic songs on stage at the Royal Albert Hall. Returning to Jonathan Anderson, who won the most important award for the second year in a row, the designer further solidified his cultural impact on English and international fashion. Beyond his success with his own brand, Anderson has earned widespread industry acclaim through his creative direction at Loewe, where he redefined the brand’s image with playful marketing, strong communication, and a deep connection to craftsmanship. Additionally, in recent years, the creative director has undertaken projects less connected to the glamorous world, designing wardrobes for Luca Guadagnino’s films Challengers and Queer, and even turning simple looks, such as the now-popular “I TOLD YA” t-shirt, into trends. The award was presented to Anderson by British actor Jamie Dornan, Loewe’s ambassador. «It’s nice to see Irish people are back in vogue», the designer joked.
