Supreme unveils its first collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto
Yamamoto's dark romanticism turns streetwear
September 14th, 2020
Supreme presented the first lookbook of its first collaboration with Japanese cult designer Yohji Yamamoto. An avant-garde creative as well as a fashion veteran with more than 50 years of career, Yamamoto is a true master of dark romanticism that, over the decades, has also become a pioneer in the gender blending of garments as well as collaborations with the sportswear world. Yamamoto was, in fact, one of the first designers to collaborate with an athletics brand, adidas, to create one of the longest-running collaborative sportswear lines in fashion history: Y-3.
The Supreme x Yohji Yamamoto collection translates the graphic cues and symbolism of Yohji into the streetwear language: floral graphics, embroidered roses, graffiti, tailored suits with a relaxed fit and inlaid sweaters represent a perfect and balanced synthesis of two different languages. The artworks in the collection are signed by creatives such as Sancheeto, Peter Saville and Yuuka Asakura.
