Here's everything you need to know about this edition of the event
February 22nd, 2018
Yesterday evening at the London O2 Arena the 2018 Brit Awards were held.
The victorious of the evening were Dua Lipa and Stormzy who snatched from the most successful artists of theirs the award for best female solo artist and best male solo artist.
Both performed live during the show, as did, among others, Rita Ora ft. Liam Payne, Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar and Liam Gallagher, protagonist of a touching tribute to the victims of the attack in Manchester.
Here's everything you need to know about the show presented by comedian Jack Whitehall, the live performances of Lamar and Stormzy, and the best dresses of the evening, from the list of winners to the feminist speech of Dua Lipa.
The winners are
Make way for the young.
Young talent has triumphed in this edition of the Brit Awards.
In fact, 24 year old Stormzy and Dua Lipa took home the most important prizes, beating big as Ed Sheeran who remained at zero. The rapper won the best male solo artist for the best album of the year with his debut work "Gang signs and prayer", while Dua those for Best female solo artist and Best emerging artist.
If new names have routed in the solo categories, in the band section have been awarded icons such as Foo Fighters, Best international group, and as the Gorillaz by Damon Albarn that in this edition have won, after being nominated for 9 years, their first Brit Award for Best band. In his delivery speech Albarn commented on attacking Brexit: "I’ve got one thing to say and it’s about this country. Believe it or not, it’s a small, little thing but a lovely place, part of a beautiful world. Don’t let it become isolated, don’t let yourselves get cut off. Considering our size, we do some great things in music. We got a lot of soul. Don’t let politics get in the way of that shit.”
Best international male artist is Kendrick Lamar for the album "Damn" characterized by strong political and social issues.
Stormzy's Grenfell call-out
After withdrawing his prizes, Stormzy performed on the stage of the O2 Arena, under heavy rain, and attacked the British premier: " Theresa May, where’s the money for Grenfell? You think we forgot about Grenfell?”
That's what the grime said, referring to the fire at the Grenfell Tower in which the night of June 14, 2017, 79 people died, including two young Italians.
Dua Lipa's acceptance speech
Dua Lipa goes on stage to collect the award for Best Female Artist and thanks “every single female that has been on this stage before me and has given girls like me a place to be inspired by and [someone to] look up to and allow us to dream. Here’s to more women on these stages, winning these awards and taking over the world.”
Liam Gallagher's Manchester tribute
Liam Gallagher dedicated a special performance to the victims of the Manchester attack, which took place in May 2017 during the Ariana Grande concert.
He took the stage, presented by Take That leader Gary Barlow, and performed a moving version of "Live Forever", one of Oasis's most iconic pieces.
Kendrick Lamar in trouble
The joy of the fans was mitigated by the technical problems of the performance. The rapper was forced to wait, lying on top of a glass cage containing a Lamborghini, while the base of "Feel" left several times.
The live was called "disastrous" by many Twitter users, who also attacked the choreography of his second song, "New Freezer", during which the rapper Rich the Kid, on stage with Lamar, began to destroy the expensive machine with a baseball bat, for no apparent reason.
Best dressed
Once again many stars have worn a pin or white rose as a symbol of support for the Time's Up movement.
The trend of the evening was the vaporous clothes, princely like that of Rita Ora in Ralph & Russo, by Dua Lipa in a pink garment by Giambattista Valli Couture. Millie Bobby Brown opted for a polka dot dress by Rodarte, the same brand for the dreamy and romantic outfits of the Haim.
These are the four best-dressed stars of the Brit Awards.
