For Loro Piana Interiors, the muse of Design Week is Cini Boeri
The legendary Milanese architect and designer was born exactly 100 years ago

Beyond the clothing and footwear for which it is world-renowned, the core of Loro Piana's activity lies in fabrics – fabrics that are also prominent in the world of home decor and have made the century-old brand a powerhouse in the world of interior design. This year, coinciding with the centenary of Loro Piana's founding, the Maison has decided to celebrate its history and that of Milanese design through an exceptional muse, the great Cini Boeri who, in an almost perfect coincidence, was born just a hundred years ago. From April 16 to 21, Loro Piana Interiors will celebrate the life and works of Cini Boeri with the installation A Tribute To Cini Boeri at the Cortile della Seta, its Milanese headquarters, whose modernist and geometric shapes converse with the rounded lines and the always practical but sophisticated construction of Boeri's seating. The installation will be dedicated to the iconic pieces designed by the great Italian architect and designer, elevated by the presence of the opulent fabrics that Loro Piana Interiors uses in the creation of its products. Made by arflex, these unique furniture pieces celebrate the most joyful, playful, and contemporary part of Cini Boeri's design idea while also physically demonstrating the versatility and value of the brand's contribution to the Italian textile sector.
The installation, created in collaboration with the Cini Boeri Archive, follows one of the guiding principles of the legendary architect's philosophy: the idea of a home with separate rooms represented by different platforms to move through and a common area, where inhabitants gather by choice, not by imposition. The central area of the exhibition hosts the famous Strips system, while the surrounding environments are dedicated to different product families, whose commonality is expressed by the fact that the different environments are connected to a central core. The path is interactive and invites guests to experience the shape of the furniture and the texture of the fabrics that cover them and to interact with them, following the teachings of Cini Boeri who wanted furniture that could adapt to the needs of its users. Exploring the different sections of the installation, visitors will discover a true anthology of Cini Boeri's best works: the aforementioned modular Strips system, winner of the Compasso d'Oro in 1979; the Strips bed, the Pecorelle armchairs, Bobo and Boborelax, and the high and low Botolo chairs. These latter seats, in particular, are covered with soft Cashfur in cashmere and silk, creating a limited edition of 100 pieces that also represents the creation of a true collector's item. For the modular Strips sofa, however, Cashmere Raw was chosen, while the Strips bed covered by a quilt that extends to cover the entire floor of the section is upholstered in Tiepolo wool. The Pecorelle armchairs, displayed on a grassy lawn, are instead covered with Pecora Nera® fabric, obtained from the fleece of New Zealand merino sheep.
