Kanye West will redesign McDonald's packaging
With Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa
May 24th, 2022
Kanye West has never hidden his passion for McDonald's, so much so that a possible collaboration with the well-known fast food brand has long been rumored. The news this time comes from Ye's Instagram account, where a post hovers with the sandwich's new design, created in collaboration with artist Naoto Fukasawa.
The new packaging combines Naoto Fukasawa's Japanese minimalism and Ye's original touch: in addition to music, in fact, Kanye West has repeatedly made forays into fashion, first with the Yeezy line and then collaborating with Gap and Balenciaga. Goodbye to the red cardboard we were used to: the new packaging, with square edges and semi-transparent, recalls a sesame-colored sandwich, with a colored insert along the sides to simulate meat and salad. All crowned by the unmistakable logo with the yellow, rounded "M."
Ye has in fact taken part in the brand's commercials - the most famous being the Super Bowl commercial , "Can I Get Uhhhhhhhhhhhh" - and has mentioned the company in several tweets. In the rapper's imagination, the fast food chain represents pop culture, the most democratic product on the market. An opinion shared, moreover, by his friend Demna who had not been admitted to a well-known Parisian restaurant because of his look. The collaboration was therefore in the air and follows the editorial line put in place by the brand: McDonald in recent years has collaborated with the most prominent names in the music scene, from BTS to Travis Scott, who redesigned the menu in 2020. For now, it is unclear whether the new packaging will be available only in the United States or in all of the chain's stores, but the news has already gone viral.
