American Apparel was acquired
By the Canadian Gildan Activewaer
January 16th, 2017
Goodbye American Apparel. It's official: the Canadian retailer Gildan Activewear has bought the US brand for $88 million. Into the sale agreement is not specified any obligation with the workers and employees, that are about 3,500 workers. American Apparel's problems began two years ago with Dov Charney's removing the posts of chairman and chief executive, overwhelmed by allegations of sexual harassment and sexism, but then continued with a sharp drop in sales and various economic problems that have worsened up to accumulate debts than estimated 200 million dollars. Now the question for American Apparel's fan is: all this really mean the end for the brand? Stop tees, colorful Spandex and basic accessories inexplicably cool, but mostly no more winking, shocking, explicit, ipersexy advertising campaigns?
