Dov Charney wants to launch a new fashion brand
After his dismissal from American Apparel
February 3rd, 2016
Dov Charney is back. After having been fired from American Apparel – the brand he founded in 1989 – following accusations of sexual assault and abuse of corporate funds, Charney announces the launch of a new fashion line focused, again, on male and female basic wear entirely Made in America.
The project will be financed by Capitol Hagan, the company that supported the comeback of Charney as CEO 300 million dollars offer for AA.
Hagan, underlining that Dov’s creativity, entrepreneurship and dedication are the bases of American Apparel’s success, told WWD: "What's important to us now is we're able to form this new venture and put Dov at the helm. We're going to do what Dov does best and then establish a robust e-commerce system. But we will not be debuting just as an online retailer".
In its early stages the brand, which doesn’t have a name nor a debut date yet, will focus on the development of its wholesale trading.
Last year has been very troubled for the Canadian entrepreneur: he lost his own business after years of sexual misconduct accusations, but he reacted by trying to buy the company again and regain control.
On January 26, a court in Wilmington, Delaware, approved the American Apparel's exit plan from bankruptcy, leaving the clothing chain in the hands of its bondholders and making Charney’s hopes to regain his creature vanish forever.
Now there’s a new chapter opened for Dov. Is this going to be the definitive one?
