Xavier Dolan & Gia Coppola by Shayne Laverdiere
The new generation of film directors is here to stay
June 13th, 2015
Xavier Dolan and Gia Coppola pose together on the cover of the SS15 issue of Assistant Magazine.
The magazine – founded and written entirely by the assistants of some of the most influent names of the fashion system – aims to give a fresh and accurate look on the new generations of international talents, and the two film makers are without any doubts two names to bet on.
Xavier Dolan is only 26, he didn’t even finish school but he already directed five successful movies, among which “Les Amours Imaginaires”(2010) and “Mommy”(2014), winner of the jury prize at the 67th edition of Cannes Film Festival. He’s also an actor, a screenwriter and a dubber and his cv also includes a music video for French rock band Indochine, College Boy.
Gia Coppola has a surname which speaks for itself, but in spite of her famous relatives she’s trying to emerge thanks to her personal style among the young directors of the new Hollywood. If you want to know more about it, you can watch her first work, “Palo Alto”(2013), based on a series of short stories about adolescence written by James Franco (who is also among the protagonists of the movie).
