Once again this year, the fashion community gathered for the CFDA Fashion Awards, held at the Museum of Natural History in New York, hosted by actress and star of the highly anticipated Wicked, Cynthia Erivo. The Council of Fashion Designers of America – in partnership with Amazon Fashion – praised the new generation of American designers, who in this edition managed to completely overshadow the industry's big names. Major victories included Rachel Scott, creative director of Diotima, winning the award for American Womenswear Designer of the Year, beating Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, and Tory Burch. For the second consecutive year, Willy Chavarria won the award for American Menswear Designer of the Year, surpassing Thom Browne and Mike Amiri. Raul Lopez, head of creative direction at Luar, took home the award for American Accessory Designer of the Year. The Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year award was given to Henry Zankov, creative director of his eponymous brand.
