Shawn Stussy announces new project The return of a legend

Shawn Stussy, the legendary founder of Stüssy, posted on Instagram in recent days announcing his upcoming return to the scene for an unspecified project. On Monday, the streetwear pioneer shared a photo of himself with a caption suggesting he has some future projects in store, which sparked excitement among his followers and the fashion community. The caption read: «A young horse is fast, but the old horse knows what’s going on… the young horse may win the race, but the old horse stays out longer». He added that for him it is «a big round number year» and revealed he is «engaged with a couple of projects out and about». Stussy, who has so far retired from public life, is ready to dive back into the creative world for what he described as «a long ride into the future». When fans flooded the comments section with birthday wishes, Stussy clarified by editing the caption to specify that it was not his birthday. But he removed the reference to his new projects, leaving followers in suspense about what exactly the project he was referring to.

Shawn Stussy stepped down from his brand in 1996, selling his shares to his friend and business partner, Frank Sinatra Jr. Despite his departure, the brand he built continued to thrive and influence streetwear culture globally, becoming today the last streetwear brand to have retained all its coolness. In the 2010s, Stussy briefly returned to the fashion scene with the launch of S/Double, a brand that soon closed, and then came out of retirement again to collaborate on Dior Homme's Pre-Fall 2020. While it is clear that Stussy is not reuniting with the Stüssy brand, his Instagram post hints at new projects that could range from launching a new brand to unique collaborations. Given his track record and deep understanding of the fashion industry, any project he undertakes is sure to keep his fans and the streetwear community eagerly anticipating.
