Merely Made clothes explore Vietnam
A journey through textures and colours
March 4th, 2024
Five flowers blooming in Sapa headlines the new Spring Summer 2024 collection by Merely Made, a brand founded in Seoul in 2018 by Hong Loco on the principles of minimalism, "normalism," and a simplistic approach to style. Since its creation, each collection from the brand explores a different country, having chosen Vietnam as the new region inspiring the brand. Sapa is a region rich in tradition in the Southeast Asian state, characterized by endless rice terraces and vibrant green landscapes. In this place where tourists and residents alike find a perfect destination for a spiritual and adventurous escape, traditions and customs collide and blend, giving rise to an extremely diverse population. The Hmong, a minority inhabiting this land, are at the center of Merely Made's new collection, drawing inspiration from their intricate embroidery and floral patterns found in their clothing. Nature, in Vietnam an overpowering force that serves as a backdrop in every corner, takes center stage.
In Hmong tradition, each flower has a different meaning, indicating different moments in life: growth, vitality, the influence of wind and water. Just as in Hmong culture, layering clothes is a practice useful for the weather conditions of Sapa, the Spring Summer 2024 collection by Merely Made finds the same functionality in this characteristic. The lives of the Hmong are then constituted by special festivals and rituals designed to celebrate the changing of seasons, a tradition passed down from generation to generation that demonstrates the care with which they treat the nature surrounding them. A tribute to the land of Sapa and the extremely conscious and attentive lifestyle of the Hmong, the "5 Flowers Blooming in Sapa" collection by Merely Made explores distant lands through clothing, a journey composed of vibrant fabrics and colors that pay homage to the irreducible beauty of Vietnam.
