A dream called Maryam Keyhani

Immaginate di ritrovarvi un un sogno, e che questo sogno abbia come regista un Lynch piuttosto che un Gondry. Lo sfondo è una foresta, ma non intesa in senso bucolico e felicemente spensierato come nel caso di qualche pubblicità di biscotti o merendine. È una foresta industriale, dove la natura ha subito pesanti innesti di glaciale acciaio e altri freddi componenti metallici. I colori esistono, ma vengono costantemente mitigati dalla presenza di materiali che ne contrastano un’interpretazione impossibile al primo sguardo.

Ecco dipinto in pochi tratti il mondo di Maryam Keyahni, designer nata a Teheran ma cresciuta a Toronto, figlia del mondo e madre di un universo estetico in costante cerca d’autore. Piume di uccelli esotici, tessuti da mille una notte e metalli si prendono per mano per raccogliersi intorno al collo di chi indossi le collane ideate dal suo genio creativo. Ciascuna collezione di Maryam prende chiara ispirazione da due ambienti fortemente in contrasto tra loro: quello naturale, appunto, e quello derivato da tutti i contesti cittadini che ha avuto modo di visitare e vivere nel corso della sua esistenza. Ed è proprio questo accostamento apparentemene ossimorico ad attirare amori a prima vista e una pioggia di consensi.

Della designer sappiamo anche come ami accumulare pubblicazioni vintage e accessori targati Marni e Céline. Altro suo grande feticcio sono i cappelli, di cui possiede un’intera collezione. Se aggiungiamo anche un’insana passione per la pittura (Ingres  è stato sua grande fonte d’ispirazione per la collezione PE 2012), ne otterremo il ritratto di una figura professionale completa, che sa perfettamente muoversi tra una moltitudine di contesti e suggestioni. Da un bozzetto a matita a un gioiello, passando per un sogno.

Close your eyes and pretend you’re getting lost in a dream,whose director is either Lynch or Gondry. With a deep forest as a backdrop of the whole thing, but quite an uncommon one – certainly not the happy, regardless environment you could find in some snack tv advert. It’s an industrial forest, where nature went through heavy steel (and other similar cold metals) treatments. Colors exist and resist,but are constantly mildened by contrasting materials which make it impossible to understand those accessories at a very first sight.

Here’s a quick portrait of Maryam Keyahni’s world, Teheran born but Toronto raised designer, daughter of  every single corner of the Earth sh’es been living at. Feathers from exotic birds, fabrics stolen from Arabian Nights and metals take their hands all together, surrounding the neck of the person who chooses to wear a piece from this genious designer. Each collection realized by Maryam takes inspiration from two very different environment: nature and urban landscapes. And that’s exactly this kind of contrast which plays a key role in providing her with everybody’s support and appreciation. 

What we know about Maryam is that she loves gathering vintage reviews as well as Marni and Céline branded accessories. She also has another addiction: collecting hats. If we add even an insane passion for painting (Ingres was a great inspiration for SS 2012 collection), we’ll get a portrait of a person with a fully skilled professional background, someone who always knows the next step.
