Italy will donate 20,000 pairs of fake Nike shoes to Ukrainian refugees
They had been seized in Piedmont and were destined for local markets
April 28th, 2022
At the beginning of last November, the authorities had seized in Leini, Piedmont, a stock of 24,000 fake shoes (of which only 20,000 were Nike bootlegs) destined to be sold in the local markets of Northern Italy that, had they been put on sale, would have earned 1.5 million euros. Thanks to a collaboration between the police and the Prefecture, however, instead of being destroyed, the huge mountain of sneakers will be donated to the Ukrainian population and refugees from the war.
Before the donation, it will be necessary to remove all the branding from the sneakers, which cannot be distributed as they are because they are fake. To carry out the work of removing all the branding, the Alpini of Leini and the 8th zone offered themselves in the Cube of the Cittadella dello Sport of the Piedmontese town, together with a group of volunteers. Among the other counterfeit brands, in addition to Nike, there were also adidas, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana.
