That Naomi Campbell was a fashion icon for all of us has always been an established fact.

But now the status of the Black Venus is official because on June 4th the Council of Fashion Designers of America will award the model with the Fashion Icon Award.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award.” - said the top in a statement -  “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

“From enfant prodige to Goddess of Fashion.” - Diane Von Furstenberg, CFDA Chairwoman has declared to Vogue USA - “Naomi represents beauty, activism and joie de vivre.”

Campbell makes her debut in the 1978 Bob Marley music video Is This Love and, a few years later, fifteen years old, signs a contract with the Synchro Model Agency.

Soon it became one of the most recognizable faces in the industry and appears on the catwalks of Chanel, Versace, Valentino and Victoria's Secret, becoming the muse of many designers, including Gianni Versace and Azzedine Alaïa.

Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and a few others have been part of that generation of top models now gone down in history.

It was time that she received the deserved recognition.
