The first transgender model to pose for a GQ's cover
It is Australian Andreja Pejic to take this first big step towards acceptance
April 4th, 2017
The blonde Andreja Pejic, born in the former Yugoslavia and raised in Australia, is the star of the last cover, in two versions, of the GQ Portugal April issue.
So far so normal, a beautiful girl who gets a job for a major magazine, but there's more: the 25-year-old is the first openly transgender model to pose for the cover of the publication dedicated to the male universe created in 1957.
Andreja's image, portrayed by Branislav Simoncik, with the written XX Cromossoma, the scientific notation for females in Portuguese, is a small historic first step. And Pejic, who has previously worked with leading designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs and was testimonial in 2015 the campaign beauty of Make Up For Ever, is so proud to post the shot on Instagram and write:
"I'd say this cover represents me getting my long awaited revenge on all those boys who didn't wanna hold hands in public when I was finding out about love for the first time. However all pettiness aside MUITO OBRIGADO to the good peeps at @GQPortugal for the award and this little moment in history. I only hope we can all increase the sorcery in 2017 xx" .
