How are you living the quarantine: fears and dreams?
I’m home and only go out if I have to get groceries. In general, I feel very moody, there are moments where I feel optimistic and moments where I’m worried. We have to be extra aware of all the emergency powers that are being given to governments all over the world right now, if we let that all happen we will end up living in a less free & liberal world. The decisions we make today will have a long-term effect on our future. I’m trying to find a balance in being informed but not too much informed cause it gives me anxiety. I’m doing relaxing breathing exercises every day because I feel like if everything else is out of my hand (I mean control is an illusion anyway) but at least I can control my breathing. Living in the now and just breathing gives me joy, and joy can be a form of resistance because it’s a form of „energy for change“ as Audre Lorde said. I hope that more people are becoming aware of the oppressive system we live in because of all the problems that we have now have been there before, they are just much bigger and intense now through this crises. My wish is, that this awareness leads to more people activating their mind and heart to dismantle the oppressive system we live in.
What is your soundtrack?
One track I always go to for joy is Prince’s song Purple Music, it’s a 10min long song about being on a natural high through music, which I can 100% relate too. If I want more calming music I listen to the music of Dorothy Ashby, who was an American jazz harpist and composer.
