Sunday Escape - Skyline Residence in Los Angeles
An environmentally-conscious home
December 18th, 2016
What is better than a relaxing evening under the stars watching a good movie?
Maybe do it in the comfort of your own home and with a cinema-sized screen.
If you are in California this is possible.
In fact, situated along the Hollywood Hills, there is the Skyline Residence.
It's a structure built in an eco-conscious way, minimizing the environmental impact thank to materials like glass, steel, mixes of concrete and wood, recycled from a nearby construction.
This structure is also called Silver Screen House, it is a property consisting of two buildings, a main house and a guest house. Between this two blocks there is a viewing platform for projections, a pool and a space that is perfect for parties.
The main structure is surrounded by glass with a smooth black Venetian plaster chosen by the architects to make the building "a singular sculptural object set within the lush natural setting". This dark exterior contrasts dynamically with the pure white interior, a solution that offers an amazing brightness. The interior of the house, originally built in 60s, features a ceiling fireplace, white surfaces of various materials and finishes, lacquered cabinetry, epoxy resin floors and decks and painted metal.
The east-facing bedrooms provides a stunning view of downtown Los Angeles, Laurel Canyon and the San Fernando Valley, as well as from the terraces. This sustainable building, designed by the architects Belzberg with a linear layout with which the both buildings appear as a single outer surface, best embodies the spirit of LA, its glamorous soul and the love for an environmentally-conscious lifestyle.
