Converse and MQBMBQ present The Roundtable
A unique opportunity to explore the stories of italian Black Queers
June 10th, 2021
On the occasion of Pride Month 2021, Converse and MQBMBQ – My Queer Blackness My Black Queerness are back to collaborate with a continuation of the #TheQueerBlackItalianExperience project presented last year. The result was MQBMBQ - The Roundtable. This new chapter of the digital project created by Jordan Anderson takes the form of a conversation during which the seven Black Queer Italians involved created a physical manifestation of the digital safe space presented in the first chapter of the project. Speaking about the project, Anderson said:
«The Roundtable was truly a really gratifying experience for me and all the guests who were a part of the talk. Before this I had never been in a room like this, a room with other Black Queer people in Italy where we were able to all share our experiences in such free and open way. Being able to be a part of that circle was quite therapeutic and looking back on the video now just reminds me of how important the moment was and how relevant it was for the things we discussed, not only for us as participants but also for those who will watch».
The roundtable was conducted and creatively directed by MQBMBQ founder Jordan Anderson, and features Mati Gwen Cosenza, Emmanuel Yoro, Loredane Tshilombo, Majid Capovani, Stefano Duc, Alex Aiyeniwon and Francesca Zanardo directed by Byron Rosero. During this conversation, a range of topics that goes from sexuality to gender, from identity to race will be covered. The project was presented on the occasion of Pride Month 2021 to underline the need of the Italian Black Queer community to make its voice heard and join us through a bond that materializes through the sharing of experiences and opinions and to reclaim the spaces of social debate that have been denied to it.
