Ferrari's first hybrid Spider
A supercar with hybrid powertrain and open-top configuration
November 13th, 2020
The new Ferrari SF90 Spider, the first hybrid supercar produced by the Prancing Horse and "sister" of the SF90 Stradale model introduced last year, has been unveiled today in Maranello.
The most notable aesthetic feature of the new spider is the Retractable Hard Top system, patented by Ferrari back in 2011, which allows you to open the retractable roof in just 14 seconds. The turbo V8 engine combined with three 220 Hp electric motors gives the SF90 Spider a total power of 1000 Hp – making it the most powerful Spider ever made by the car manufacturer.
The powertrain that combines the petrol engine and electric units allows on-demand activation of all-wheel drive. While driving the eSSC system allows you to check at all times the condition of the car, driving stability and front electric motors, and allows the driver to manage the torque applied to the external and internal wheel. In terms of design, the silhouette of the coupe for the integration of the retractable roof has been maintained, with an emphasis placed on supports on the sides and rollbars.
With this car Ferrari aims yes to its regular customers but also looks to the younger generations. As Enrico Galliera, Head of Ferrari Marketing and Sales said to Gazzetta Motori:
The customer profile that the SF90 Stradale has brought to Ferrari is younger, it is likely that both performance and plug-in hybrid powertrain attracts this audience.
