Apple might be opening its first hotel
The location might be the new campus of the brand in Austin, Texas
May 26th, 2020
In November last year, Apple started working on its new Campus in the city of Austin, Texas, a complex of over 278,000 square meters that will be built near the existing West Parmer Lane and Riata Vista Circle facilities where most of its 7,000 city residents work. The old campus, which was completed in 2016, occupies an area of 1.1 million square meters, has seven 38-acre office buildings and is Apple's largest hub outside of its Cupertino headquarters.
There is a second version of the project, which would have been approved at the end of April, raising great attention. In addition to parking areas and 185,000 square feet of office space, the campus will feature Apple's first hotel. The details are still very few and the company has yet to make official statements, but it seems that the mysterious hotel will offer 192 rooms, arranged over six floors, and will occupy a total area of 7 thousand square meters. Currently, we do not know if it will be franchised to a particular brand. Probably it will be managed directly by Steve Jobs' company and will be reserved exclusively for employees on business trips, meetings and company courses.
Apple is a trendsetter in so many ways. Its proposed hotel as part of its new Austin campus is another example of it being ahead of the curve, said John Boyd Jr., principal of Princeton. Having a hotel connected at the hip with its corporate parent is not common now, but in the post-COVID-19 corporate travel world, I expect we will be seeing more of this concept, especially from deep-pocketed tech firms like Apple, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.
All the hotel and campus details will be revealed by 2022, when the new $1 billion Texas hub will be finished and ready to accommodate more than 15,000 Apple employees.
