According to a recent market forecast by Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is reportedly working on a pair of Apple Glasses for augmented reality. Rumours that such a product was in the works at the Cupertino brand have been running for months with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman talking about AR as one of Apple's next targets.
According to various reports, the glasses will be able to wirelessly connect to the iPhone to show messages, maps and emails on lenses, but also display 3D objects and scan human faces with the ability to play video games and take photographs. Their release is expected between 2021 and 2023 and will follow a gradual process with a headset that will precede the release of the actual glasses.
Kuo pointed out that the glasses will function as an accessory to the iPhone and not as an independent device – and this for practical reasons. The first headset we'll see will be more like Facebook's Oculus Quest, but with a more minimal design and more comfort-oriented and light-hearted than its predecessors. Then will come the actual AR glasses, which will have high-resolution displays and an operating system called rOS (reality OS). According to Kuo, you can control them using touch panels, voice activation and hand gestures. According to reports from The Information and Mark Gurman, the design of the glasses has gone from a thick-framed model to a new lightweight prototype.
All the details of the new glasses would have already been discussed by a thousand Apple executives during an internal presentation in Cupertino, held at the Steve Jobs Theatre last October.
