Will the next Agent 007 be a black woman? In the new chapter of the saga Daniel Craig might pass the torch to Lashana Lynch

Since Daniel Craig announced some time ago that he was ready to give up the role of James Bond, many were citing the names of the actor that started cirulating as the replacement in the role of the popular spy created by Ian Fleming. Until yesterday, the most likely successor was Idris Elba, but the Daily Mail has now revealed that in Bond 25, the next chapter of the saga, which is still being shoot, the character played by Daniel Craig will handover his identification code 007 to Lashana Lynch. After Doctor Who, another historic character of English cinema will be played by a woman.

The news has not yet been officially confirmed, but it seems that the idea was by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, brilliant screenwriter and actress protagonist of Fleabag and author of the beautiful TV series Killing Eve, who has reworked the script of the film, improving the dialogues and helping the plot and the characters to keep pace with the times post-MeToo. A mysterious source has revealed to the English newspaper that the new film will start with a moment defined "popcorn-dropping":

There is a pivotal scene at the beginning of the film in which M says "Come pure 007″ and Lashana enters the scene who is a black and beautiful woman.

In Bond 25 the famous spy is retired in Jamaica, but he is called back to work by his friend Felix Leiter to find a missing scientist. It's possible, then, that being Bond away from the operational service, his boss M (Ralph Fiennes) has promoted to a new double zero the female agent played by Lynch. This expedient could offer new interesting ideas in a saga that has always been based on a male figure accustomed to treating women, the Bond-Girls, as an object to seduce and abandon. About this Waller-Bridge said:

There's been a lot of talk about whether or not Bond is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that's b******s. I think he's absolutely relevant now. [The franchise] has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn't have to. He needs to be true to his character.

Now all eyes are on Lashana Lynch, but who is the young actress?

Born in London on November, 27th 1987, Lashana has Jamaican roots and studied acting at Arts Educational Schools. After appearing in small roles in several films and television series, she became more popular thanks to Captain Marvel in which she played Marie Rambeau, the best friend of the protagonist Brie Larson. The role in Bond 25 could prove to be a golden opportunity for the actress who would also enter the history of cinema as the first 007 woman ever. Along with Lynch and Daniel Craig, the cast of the film directed by Cary Fukunaga will also include Christoph Waltz, who will reprise the arch-enemy character of Bond Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Rami Malek as another villain, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes.
