Watch the "The Beach Bum" trailer
The new Harmony Korine film with Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Jonah Hill and a bunch of drugs
January 24th, 2019
After the first teaser was posted on YouTube back on September, yesterday was finally published the trailer of The Beach Bum, the new and highly anticipated film written and directed by Harmony Korine.
The Beach Bum seems to be everything we could have desired: a psychedelic trip into the darkness sides of a mad mind. The film revolves around the narcotic adventures of Matthew McConaughey as Moondog, a rebellious writer who lives by his own rules always ending up next to the beach (don’t listen to haters everywhere: after 20 years of worthy career, this is clearly the role that McConaughey was destined to play). With him, there's a Hollywood high-profile cast: Snoop Dog smoking weed (it’ll all be true) and Martin Lawrence – who we will be soon also in Bad Boys For Life, with Will Smith, - then Isla Fisher, Zac Efron (looking everyday more and more like Dwayne-The Rock) with a really weird haircut and Jonah Hill (GQ’s Man of the Year).
The trailer is fire: a cinematographic jewel that establishes the talent of Harmony Korine. There’s everything you want to see: the ocean and a piano, pools and flamingos, beaches and hawaiian shirts, drugs and neon thongs.
It’s been six years since Spring Breakers, the film that made his director one of the most famous and controversial topics in Hollywood. Spring Breakers was not gentle, but it took everybody’s hearts. But it’s time for something more: Harmony Korine is finally ready to make his big screen comeback. Not that he’s been calm in these years: lately, Alessandro Michele per se wanted him to shoot the new Gucci’s book (in the beautiful landscape of Pompei and Ercolano), while in 2016 he directed the Needed Me clip for Rihanna – and starred as a guest in the video for Last Time, by Travis Scott and Gucci Mane (with whom he’s always collaborated on the Supreme commercials).
The film is produced by Vice Studios and will have its worldwide premiere at South by South West Film Festival, then will debut in U.S. theaters on March 22th.
