Netflix News: in 2018 there will be 700 original productions
Says the CEO and founder of the streaming platform during an event in Rome
April 20th, 2018
"What we have to do is stay focused on what we do best, and it's producing original content and shows".
Rome. Reed Hastings rises on the stage of Villa Miani, loose and relaxed, ready to discuss about the future of what is his greatest jewel, one of the most successful inventions in the sector of entertainment, cinema and internet: Netflix. On the occasion of the See What's Next event, the CEO of the stremaing platform anticipated what will be some of the next special original content that will be produced in Europe.
It's expected the publication of 700 original content this year, including 80 films and 10 new EU projects, including seven series, as the first Made in Holland, Mortel (France), The Wave (Germany), Luna Nera (Italy), La Casa de Papel Part 3 (Spain), The English Game (Great Britain), Turn Up Charlie (still Great Britain) and two French documentaries.
From our country we're waiting for Luna Nera, a show with a creative team composed by Francesca Manieri, Laura Paolucci and Tiziana Triana, aimed at recounting the witch trials in the seventeenth century.
"We are not just a company that produces content - we are responding to a question - we are a unique combination, like Apple: it is both fashion and technology, indeed it has been challenged by the big names of fashion as we are attacked by those who produce content. But our value is in being both".
One thing is therefore clear: Netflix is not willing to hinder the culture of cinema, despite all its "creations" have been excluded from the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, from the moment when its business model is far from the content publishing circuit of the big screen.
