Sfera Ebbasta is the new Italian adidas testimonial
The only Italian in a team that includes Pharrell Williams, Blondey and Jonah Hill
January 28th, 2020
In his early career, Sfera Ebbasta was a great Nike fan, in Cavallini he wore a Glasgow Celtic jersey, in Tesla the Air Jordan 1 University Blue together with the football jersey made by Nike in collaboration with Off-White. The swoosh is also present in two Sfera’s manifestos like Panette ("talking about stories and G in the Nike Tisci") and Ciny, in which he wears an Air Max 1 pair on a hoverboard.
For about a year and a half, however, Sfera Ebbasta has stopped wearing nike sneakers and garments, preferring brands such as Dior, Versace, Prada and adidas. In early December, the artist posted a photo on Instagram in which he eats spaghetti with meatballs using an adidas Superstar as a dish. The hashtag #createdwithadidas has hinted at a collaboration in the pipeline, to mark the 50th anniversary of the sneaker. The confirmation came at the end of January 2020 with the artist's participation in the Change is a Team Sport campaign. And while there is no mention yet of an official sneaker collaboration, Sfera has joined an international team of ambassadors that includes Pharrell Williams, Blondey McCoy and the pro-gamer Ninja.
One reason, however, that can make us hope for the future appearance of an adidas sneaker co-signed by Sfera Ebbasta is the collab of adidas with Prada, a brand repeatedly worn by Sfera on Instagram and in his television appearances such as X-Factor. The Italian fashion house chose the Superstar as a model to be reinterpreted for its collaboration with adidas, focusing on a piece of streetwear history, revisited in a super clean key and already at resell at over four thousand euros.
Prior to the release of the Change is a Team Sport campaign, the Cinisello rapper had posted a teaser on his Instagram stories that depicted him in the car framing the suit with the German brand's three stripes. It will remain to be seen what will be the future evolutions of his partnership and especially if we will ever see an adidas x Ebbasta Sphere sneaker.
After the album "Rockstar" of 2018, perhaps there was no better artist to revive a "Superstar" of fashion.
