Evrything you need to know about Club to Club 2019

After the teasing the 2019 edition with the Avant-Premiere night in collaboration with Stone Island, tomorrow Club To Club will open its doors in Turin. La Luce al Buio: Season 2 will be the nineteenth edition of the festival, and as can be seen from the title of the edition it will be in visual and sound continuity with La Luce al Buio: Season 1, a tribute to Franco Battiato highlighted by the visual campaign conceived bt the British visual artist Weirdcore.
Club to Club is the last festival of the European season and after almost twenty years of activity it has become an institution for research and artistic experimentation and the synergy refined with the city of Turin thanks to Contemporary Art Week. This year's line-up - despite the absence of a real headliner compared to Aphex Twin or Thom Yorke - follows the artistic line of the latest editions dominated by Avant-Pop, or its contemporary sound of avant-garde music that it has not abandoned the mainstream but expands its boundaries. A choice in harmony with the artistic direction of the festival that renews the intent to be more than a simple musical event but an intercultural exploration for the public.

 

The full program 

The program of Light in the Dark: season 2 promises to be extremely rich: 50 shows, 16 Italian exclusive, 11 Italian debuts, 100 artists from 5 continents. The two main nights will be Friday 1 and Saturday 2, but already Wednesday night Slowthai will perform on the OGR stage in his Italian debut with a highly anticipated anti-Brexit performance. The Locations

The festival will be hosted in four different locations over the five days of the festival.
Friday and Saturday will be in the historic Lingotto Fiera location, the other dates will be divided between OGR (Officine Grandi Riparazioni), Porta Palazzo, the Reggia di Venaria and the Symposium.

Highlights and must-see shows

The headline of this edition is James Blake, the internationally artist has released his latest album Assume Form hosting Travis Scott, Andrè 3000 and Rosalìa. Among the big names, I would suggest not to miss two performances: Chromatics and Romy. The Portland-based band will bring its dreamy and hypnotic sound to Italy for the first time: Chromatics best embodies the definition of Avant-pop and which has inspired David Lynch for the last season of Twin Peaks. Romy Madley Croft - simply Romy - is one of the three members of The XX, co-author, guitarist and voice of the London band, Romy is one of the most interesting profiles of contemporary music and Club To Club will bring an exclusive set for the Italian debut.

Among the most under the radar names, Slowthai's concert on Wednesday is a not to be missed since the theme will be no-brexit. Other shows to take notes are the English duo Let's Eat Grandma, The Comet is Coming which sees the saxophone Shabaka Hutchings, protagonist of the new British scene and the American artist Holly Herndon, who presents her latest album Proto, born from collaboration between the musician and artificial intelligence. Among the Italian debuts, do not miss that of Blinky, the new project by DJs and producers Andrea Bernardi (drum machine and synth) Francesco Chiamulera (Guitars and synths) and is the result of the union of the different influences and paths of the two: the underground techno and ghetto house perversions mixed with Uk, dub and dancehall sounds.
