IED Cinema is coming to Milan
The sixth discipline of the European Institute of Design
January 28th, 2025
Today, at the Anteo Cinema in Milan, IED Cinema was presented to the press, a new school of the European Institute of Design that adds a new discipline to its educational ecosystem, which already includes Design, Fashion, Visual Arts, Communication, Art, and Restoration. This is an ambitious project aimed at training new generations of filmmakers capable of facing the challenges of a growing sector, rich in opportunities, and increasingly interconnected with digital technologies. The educational offering includes a three-year undergraduate program in Cinema and a master's degree with two distinct specializations: Screenwriting and Film Directing and Film Production. The approach is clear: a mix of theory and practice that puts students at the center of the set from day one. «We consider cinema a collective work,» explains Riccardo Balbo, Academic Director of the IED Group, «and we want to train professionals capable of collaborating to create high-level artistic productions.»
Making the IED Cinema experience even more exclusive is the network of relationships with industry professionals and institutions, as well as the active participation of giants of Italian cinema such as Paolo Sorrentino, Valeria Golino, and Pierfrancesco Favino, who are part of the prestigious Scientific Committee. The academic offering will be enriched with practical labs, workshops, and master's programs, with the aim of connecting young talents to the real world of film production. Based in Milan, the project inherits the decades of experience of OffiCine, a true creative laboratory of the group, while maintaining a philosophy that combines innovation, narrative courage, and attention to the evolution of audiovisual languages.
