How Soho House Rome became a cultural incubator

After only three years from its opening

How Soho House Rome became a cultural incubator After only three years from its opening

In the heart of the capital, the San Lorenzo district has been home to the first Italian Soho House since 2021. A thriving hub of hospitality for the creative community, the Roman branch of the members' club has continued to establish its role as a cultural hub since its opening. A 10-story building in total Roman style, reflecting the warm colors of the Eternal City, Soho House Rome offers its members a 360° experience with an extensive and varied events programme 7-days a week, 2 restaurants, a gym, and Cowshed Spa (members-only), screening room, co-working, and events spaces, as well as 49 bedrooms and long-stay serviced apartments. But the cherry on top is found on the top floor: Cecconi's Terrazza and its breathtaking view of the capital's skyline. Furthermore, to celebrate the artistic and cultural heritage of Italy, the art collection at Soho House Rome is mostly composed of works created by artists who live and work in Italy, with special attention to those from Lazio. In the club’s main space, the curation focuses on the theme of Saints and Sinners; local and international artists were invited to create a work that addresses this ancient concept. The idea has been interpreted in a multitude of inventive ways: from football ultras to Mary Magdalene, the art explores good and evil and the in-between space. Still acting as a cultural incubator, the members' club established the Soho Mentorship program in 2018, pairing Soho members with young creatives from lower and underrepresented socioeconomic backgrounds.

Over the years, Soho House has also opened to non-members to celebrate cultural events related to the Roman community. Mainly exhibitions and artistic events, such as the photographic exhibition Gender Project by Veronique Charlotte - exhibited in 2023 - and the project CREA San Lorenzo, where artisans and creatives from the neighborhood were able to showcase their works in the collective exhibition at Soho House Rome. Additionally, this year, the Roman hub was chosen as the location for the Soho Summit 2024, the annual festival of the luxury hospitality giant, welcoming major names from the creative industry - from Sam Taylor-Johnson to Sofia Prantera. For three days, the Roman House hosted talks and workshops on the theme of creativity, inclusion, and art. More recently, Soho House Rome collaborated with nss edicola, hosting the after-party for the opening of the pop-up Roma 6 Unica, which was open from September 12 to 15 in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. With Brazilian DJ Luna Passos and French DJ Acid Arab as top Roman guests, the nss edicola event at the Roman Soho House was a success to be repeated.
