In Rome there is a hotel designed by Luca Guadagnino

Before heading to Venice for the premiere of his latest film project, Queer, this summer director Luca Guadagnino inaugurated a new hotel in Rome. In collaboration with Mia Home Design Gallery and Laura Feroldi Studio, who designed the twenty-six rooms, Studio Luca Guadagnino worked on a splendid restoration project that saw the former aristocratic children's boarding school Palazzo Talìa transformed into a luxury hotel. Talìa, not by chance, was the muse of comedy and light poetry in Roman tradition, a character still appearing in the frescoes decorating the palace walls. The structure was once known as Collegio Nazareno, the oldest school in the capital, built in 1600, which witnessed centuries of history before permanently closing in 1999. Now, the wonderful spaces of the Palazzo can breathe new life, draped in soft colors and a design that balances retro and modern.

This is not the first time Luca Guadagnino has dabbled in interior design: in the past, the director's studio worked on the design of the Aesop boutique in Rome and London, two wellness oases that perfectly marry the brand’s purist and minimalist aesthetic with the chromatic elegance for which the director's work is known. For the design of Palazzo Talìa, the same approach was applied, explains Pablo Molezum, Project Manager at Studio Luca Guadagnino, with particular attention to light and the historical features of the venue that needed to be enhanced. «The most exciting aspect was wondering how to intervene in such a historically rich place and tailor it with a totally different, bespoke look to give the palace a new life,» he told the press. While the collaborators Laura Feroldi Studio and Mia Home Design Gallery handled the furnishings of the rooms, the acclaimed director of Call Me By Your Name and Bones And All signed the public spaces of the hotel, such as the restaurant, the bar, the hall, and the Aula Magna, as well as the Terrace Suite on the top floor, an open-air living room characterized by peachwood furniture and soft colors that perfectly blend with the lush nature surrounding it.
