The next iPhones might get ChatGPT
Apple is close to reaching an agreement with OpenAI

Apple would be finding an agreement with OpenAI, an informatics company owning the tool driven by artificial intelligence ChatGPT, to use their technologies on iPhone. The project, still in negotiation, would allow the upcoming iOS 18 operating system to include AI tools on the smartphone devices of the tech company. According to what Bloomberg reports, Apple would also be in dialogue with Google to obtain the license for Gemini, the company's chatbot. For now, American sources emphasize that an official announcement will not come before June, and it is thought that it will be announced at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference). Whether ChatGPT is chosen or Gemini, the integration of an artificial intelligence tool on the iPhone seems to be increasingly imminent. The new AI tool would appear on the iPhone in "on device" mode, generated directly on the device without the need for the internet.
According to a statement made by Apple's CEO Tim Cook last year, ChatGPT still has several problems to solve. As reported by the Financial Times, AI-driven messaging platforms are still undergoing transformation, after an initial boom in the sector. OpenAI is simply a startup, and the costs to keep the ChatGPT service active are still very high: every request costs four cents to the company. For this reason, a partnership with Apple could solve many of the uncertainties and obstacles that the service faces: while ChatGPT could finally count on more substantial financial support, Apple could instead manage to improve sales, still declining.
