In the past few hours, several shots have appeared around the web, capturing ASAP Rocky on the set of High & Low, the new film by Spike Lee which will be distributed in theaters by A24. The thriller, whose production began during March and whose release date has not yet been officially confirmed, is the English-language remake of the 1963 cult thriller directed by Akira Kurosawa, High and Low. The Japanese film, an adaptation of King's Ransom by Ed McBain, told the intricate story of the character Kingo Gondo - portrayed by Toshirō Mifune - a wealthy businessman who, after borrowing a substantial sum of money, is about to take control of the shoe factory where he has always worked by ousting the rest of the board of directors. His plans are shattered by a simple phone call: a voice informs him that his son Jun has been kidnapped and that, if he wants to see him alive again, he must pay a ransom of thirty million yen, which would make it impossible for him to acquire the company.

ASAP Rocky is therefore joining a cast that already boasts the presence of Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, and Ice Spice; Halle Berry, however, has not yet been confirmed. The presence of the Harlem rapper confirms the increasingly popular trend of incorporating musical artists into films - just think of Post Malone alongside Connor McGregor in the remake of Road House. We can only speculate whether ASAP Rocky will play a marginal or central role in Spike Lee's project: the leaked images up to this point - especially on X - show Rocky about to shoot a scene in handcuffs, wearing an outfit composed of Timberland boots and oversized denim and shirt. Meanwhile, more than a few users have tried to imagine Ice Spice and ASAP Rocky in the roles portrayed by Akira Kurasawa over 60 years ago.
