Pièces Uniques reimagines the school attire in collaboration with adidas
The French brand unveils its latest collection through a visual odyssey
February 27th, 2024
"I want this collection to evoke the sweet moments of friendship and love during adolescence, that precious time when we sculpt our identity, personality, and style, the moment when we discover ourselves. To celebrate the launch of the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, titled J'aime pas l'école and set for February 28th, Pièces Uniques and adidas have joined forces to create a unique cinematic experience. Through the lens of Asian culture, which has been the primary inspiration for the creator of this collection, the narrative unfolds with authenticity and finesse. Inspired by legendary directors such as Hirokazu Koreeda, Hou Hsiao-hsien, and others, the artistic director draws from these influences to elevate everyday life, invoking the childhood narratives of his parents. Each scene unfolds like a static tableau, carefully crafted with delicate shades of color and light, highlighting the characters and their emotional essence.
For the creation of his very first short film, Edmond Luu drew inspiration from his own past, delving into old photographs of his mother's childhood in Vietnam and finding inspiration in her school uniforms. The outfits, specially crafted for the actors, showcase exclusive pieces from the collection, encompassing the entire spectrum of school attire, from the 'sailor fuku' to the varsity jacket. They are meticulously adorned with a thoughtful final touch, featuring the addition of adidas SL72 to perfect the ensemble. Titled Première fois, this work has chosen Japan as a backdrop to capture the essence of love, friendship, and bittersweet nostalgia that accompanies cherished memories of youth. The soundtrack seamlessly accompanies the film, featuring the song "The Moon Represents My Heart" by Teresa Teng, a Taiwanese icon from the '70s and a favorite of Edmond's mother, reinterpreted evocatively by the Korean artist Gemini, adding a poignant cultural resonance."
