The new single Canzone per me by the rapper 1989, winner of the Urban Icon category at LAZIOSound, has been released. The track, inspired by the iconic song i by Kendrick Lamar and produced by Squarta and Gabbo (Cor Veleno), combines a sound reminiscent of old-school rap with a message about self-love, reconciliation, and peace to calm the inner demons within each of us. 1989, also known as Corrado Carnevale, draws inspiration from the origins of the genre rather than its contemporary derivatives, demonstrating character and skill in presenting a track that breaks free from current trends. The lyrics are inspired by Kendrick Lamar's iconic track, i, released in 2014, which encouraged self-love and featured a sample from The Isley Brothers' That Lady.

The good vibes return in 1989's track, as the artist combines them with an old-school sound, assisted by the four-handed production of Squarta and Gabbo from the historic Roman group Cor Veleno. In his lyrics, 1989 narrates the semi-dystopian present we are experiencing, reaching out to those facing society's injustices and harsh life difficulties. Canzone per me focuses on the individual, their psychological sphere, and tells the story of a boy who chooses to love himself first. 1989 states: «The song is an invitation to reconcile with oneself, to be at peace with the person with whom we must, willingly or unwillingly, share every moment of our lives. It's a song I wrote for myself, to dedicate to myself, but it also belongs to anyone who wants to make this reconciliation their own.»

In line with the theme of the song, the cover – created by Marco Casini – depicts the rapper as a young boy playing with an 80s computer running only MS-DOS. The music video, shot by the video production company Soul Film Production, shows 1989 engaged in various activities he loves in a continuous shot at home. 1989, the winner of the Urban Icon category at LAZIOSound 2023, has notable works including the album with Indelebile Squad (2012), the duo with Jean P, the solo album Weather Report (2015), and the video-EP collaboration with Soul Film Production (Alè) titled Gli Imbecilli (2016). In 2018, with the song Malanova, he, along with his band Pippo Baudo Lost in Time, won the special OndaRock Award at the Music Against Mafias competition. In 2019, he released another solo EP, Lo zen, oppure l'abilità di catturare un killer. In June 2020, his song Tuttology was selected by the Asian Fake label (Coma_Cose, Ketama126, Frenetik&Orang3) for the Hanami compilation of emerging artists, released on June 5, 2020, and distributed by Sony Music Italy. In November 2023, his first solo album, Gente che odia la gente, was released by Time 2 Rap Records.
