Voiello dedicates a mural to the city of Naples
Artist Leticia Mandragora completes Partenope, Mother of Naples' neighbourhoods
December 4th, 2023
On Saturday, December 2nd, to crown the project MIEZ’A VIA, Voiello finally unveiled the mural created in the heart of Naples in collaboration with the renowned street artist Leticia Mandragora. After the special announcement made last week on nss magazine and the opening of registrations for the sold-out event, this weekend's event received exceptional participation from the entire city, gathered in Piazza Francesco Muzii for the occasion. Saturday was a significant day for the brand, which has just launched several initiatives in the square of the Arenella neighborhood. Until December 5th, alongside the plaque dedicated to MIEZ’A VIA installed in the green space in front of the mural, an immersive journey inspired by the thirty neighborhoods of Naples took place, depicted on the tail of Partenope by the fashion designers VIENMNSUONNO1926.
Reigniting the spotlight on the MIEZ’A VIA project, Voiello has returned to Naples, tinting it blue in homage to the beauty and founding myth of the city. Partenope, Mother of the neighborhoods of Naples not only personifies the legend featuring the mermaid Partenope but also honors the history of all Neapolitans. Immortalizing the emblems of all the neighborhoods of the city on the blue gills of Partenope, Mandragora and Voiello's work depicts the union between the past and present of the capital, associating a legend handed down for centuries with the contemporary nature of street art, an artistic movement that in Naples has an increasingly cultural impact.
Regarding the new mural of the MIEZ'A VIA project, the art and research critic of the University of Naples Federico II, Gianpasquale Greco, noted that Partenope is «immersed in cobalt blue, which could be defined as the artist's 'flag' color. The mermaid seems to connect the sky with the sea, rising from the depths while pointing upwards, appearing as a goddess of the land, mother, and creator.» Wheat is a recurring icon in the history of Neapolitan culture. «On the ancient route, where between the 16th and 17th centuries the 'grain pits' were built near the current Via Toledo and Piazza Dante, there are real silos tasked with preserving the harvest, right in the center of the city.»
Present at the inauguration of Voiello's new mural, Francesco Del Porto, Regional President Italy of Barilla, spoke during the mural's inauguration to recall the history of the bond between the brand and Naples:
«Voiello is indissolubly linked to Naples, a city in which it has its roots since 1879: our history, our pasta are rooted in Neapolitan culture and gastronomy. Always, but even more so in recent years, Naples is the epicenter of a cultural and artistic ferment that seduces millions of people worldwide. We have thus decided to continue to give through this initiative and following what we have done so far, such as with Procida Capital of Culture and the Milanese stage of Miez'a Via, our contribution and support to sustain the talent, values, and Neapolitan culture.»
