On the occasion of Earth Week, during the days celebrating the planet and promoting respect for the environment, banking platform Klarna decided to work together with the cohesive Reddit community on a project suggesting to their consumers the products with the best resistance and durability. From Dr- Martens boots to Le Creuset kitchen sets, from Teva sandals to Herman Miller's office chair, the Buy it for Life detailed list was compiled over the course of 2022 by members of Reddit, and to date has over 1.4 million subscribers.

According to research by Bain & Company, more and more customers are showing a marked interest in the eco-friendly aspect of products, and according to data from Klarna's Shopping Pulse, more than one in three Italians prefer to buy from brands with a low impact on the environment. Flanking the "Responsible Brands" and "Circular Shopping" initiatives, the list is an additional stimulus toward sustainable and conscious shopping, disincentivizing compulsive and unnecessary purchases. «With our growing ecosystem of 150 million global consumers, we're excited to partner with Reddit and the BIFL community to inspire people to buy products that last longer, save money and reduce waste,» explained Klarna's Head of Sustainability Salah Said, «we at Klarna are here to provide you with the information and tools you need to make informed purchasing decisions»
In addition to working with Reddit, the project uses ChatGPT technology to analyse the most mentioned products in the Buy it for Life thread, then selecting only those that have received positive reviews. The items on the list have all been described as durable, a necessary feature to make the life cycle of a product, be it a garment or an interior design item, as long-lasting as possible. On the app it will also be possible to make a donation dedicated to environmental protection and, after inaugurating this collaboration, Klarna will aim to update the list every year, to continue supporting its consumers' wallets as well as the planet.
