Matthew McConaughey may run for US presidency
ns'kyj, acting qualities often come in handy in politics

That showmen can become able politicians is a practise that is less outdated than one might think. From Volodymyr Zelens'kyj to Ronald Reagan, acting qualities often come in handy when it comes to matters of state. In the future, the United States may have a second acting president: Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey. Indeed, sources have revealed to the US media that the 53-year-old has already put together a team to take care of finances and strategy for a candidacy in six years. He is thus preparing for a run for the White House in 2028, confirming some public statements he has made in recent years.

In fact, McConaughey has not appeared in a film since 2019 to focus on raising his children Levi, 14, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10, and his relationship with his wife Camila Alves. The actor has been talking about politics for years, but lately he seemed more engaged: in 2021, he had spoken about activism, the Uvalde school shooting and his political beliefs at a talk to a packed auditorium at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts Theatre. When interviewer and friend Benioff asked the actor about the 2024 election, McConaughey made no definitive statements about this cycle in particular, but hinted at his presidential ambitions in general: «Yes, I will think about it in the future, I would be arrogant if I did not, I will definitely think about it.» McConaughey had previously considered running for governor of Texas in 2021 (he was born in Uvalde in 1969), but on 28 November that year he announced his official decision not to run in a 3-minute video on his Twitter profile.
McConaughey's political views remain a mystery to this day. According to some speculation in The Sun, his Texas heritage, a traditionally red state, would suggest a Republican leaning, but his involvement alongside President Biden after the Uvalde shooting and his statements on gun control could confirm him as a Democrat. It is not yet known in what capacity the Oscar-winning actor will run, but if Trump and Biden clash again in 2028, a third pol could be a solution for many voters. He is certainly a more credible candidate than Kanye West.
