Instatrend Alert: Rose Garden

Rummaging through backstage photos and snapshots of the Big Apple's streets during New York Fashion Week SS17, we reckoned that the neo-romantic wave started by Alessandro Michele when he ascended the Gucci throne shows no signs of slowdown. In particular, an authentic nursery of roses –whether embroidered, painted or applied with patches – seems to be blossoming on denim, leather jackets, shirts and blouses.

Of course, the Gucci roses are always at the forefront in the most floral-infused Instagram feeds, but many other brands have proposed their own variations on the theme. Aside from Dolce & Gabbana that has made of applied and embroidered roses its trademark for years, for AW16 Gvasalia's brand new Balenciaga proposes total looks of print and arabesques roses peeking out of the several layers, while Alexander Wang was during this NYFW SS17 paraded a beautiful Julia Nobis wearing a shirt with large printed red roses and cut-out shoulders. Alyx put them on t-shirts, matched with latex and total black looks, while Off|White embroider them on trenches and oversized bombers.

Partly thanks to the super girly imagery blazoned by photographers as Petra Collins and Chloe Sheppard and by 'feminist' clothing lines like Me and You, roses spread like wildfire, ranging from elaborate and elegant embroidery to patches with more of a rock spirit that often recall old school tattoos' style.
