The comeback of the striped shirt
From the movies to the street
July 22nd, 2016
French girls (and normcore) taught us that 'less is more'. Following the Céline-effect, in recent years the streets of the main cities worldwide have been hit by a more sober and minimalist style, and the latest phenomenon in terms of street style does nothing but confirming this trend.
From Paris to Milan, from Berlin to Tel Aviv, from London to Tbilisi, not forgetting New York, the men's blue striped shirt has become a statement, so much that designers had fun decomposing it and it girls wearing it in alternative ways: backwards, oversize as a mini-dress, half buttoned, turning this originally men’s piece into a hyper-feminine, sometimes sensual item.
Cinema was not immune to its charm either: for his A Bigger Splash (2015) Luca Guadagnino entrusted Raf Simons with the task to dress Tilda Swinton with stylish shirts with blue stripes, perfect to embody the casual and relaxed style of the island of Pantelleria.
During the latest Paris Haute Couture week Vetements, with the help of Comme des Garçons Shirt, made it a key piece of their collection, both for him and for her.
The message is clear: open your boyfriend’s wardrobe and make his striped shirt your must-have item of the season!
