Antonio Banderas will play Gianni Versace

Danish director Bille August has confirmed the presence of Antonio Banderas in his next film, where the actor will play the role of Gianni Versace, the great designer brutally murdered in Miami in 1997.

Pedro Almodóvar’s favourite actor, who has just launched his first men’s wear collection after his fashion courses at London’s Central Saint Martins, will be finally able to merge his two passions: cinema and fashion.

The film, whose shooting will begin in December between Milan, Reggio Calabria and Miami, didn’t receive, as WWD reports, the official authorization of the Italian fashion house, who stated that the movie should be seen only as "a work of fiction."

Versace – that’s the title of the film – will tell the rise in the fashion world of the Calabrian designer from the 1970s until his tragic death in 1997. A veil of mystery still covers its details, but we’re sure photos from the set will start surfacing soon.
