Cats in fashion Our top 5

Until a short time ago, being a woman and manifesting a big love for cats was equivalent to a social suicide, a clear statement of loneliness and sloppiness, today this isn't true anymore.

These friendly felines are having a big success on social networks. Every cat image gains hundreds of likes, popstars adore taking pictures of them, so much that Miley Cyrus has even sung with a cat during the American Music Awards.

It's been a long time since Lisa Kudrow, Phoebe in Friends, sang Smelly Cat, but the unforgettable motif could become the anthem of 2016, because this is the year of the cat.

If the world has been divided into those who love dogs and those who the cats, fashion has no doubt and lines up alongside the small felines. You don’t believe me? What if I tell you that Chloë Sevigny, one of the coolest it-girls ever existed, decided to dedicate Kitty, her directorial debut, to Paul Bowles’ book which tells of a child who is able to fulfill her dream to become a cat. The little Choupette is a star as its owner, Karl Lagerfeld, and the red Grace Coddington declares she is a true cat-lover.

Not enough? Did you have a look at the latest fashion collections? Brands like GucciMSGM, Paul&Joe, N°21, Arthur Arbesser and Vivetta decorated sweaters and skirts with playful kittens, while others like Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartneyChanel and Marc Jacobs made dresses with all-over prints. It was so successful that the term "cat-mouflage" was born.

Here are our 5 favourite cat addicted brands.

#1 Gucci

Alessandro Michele's fashion is kaleidoscopic, bizarre, hyperbolic, full of contrasts, details, colours. Embroidered animals have become his signature: panthers, lions, snakes, birds, dogs and especially cats. Gucci, in the hands of its new designer does more: transforms the style of weird cat ladies, alone, intellectual and not very chic in an iconic, desirable look.

#2 Miu Miu

Miuccia has always known it. Cats are the trend of the future and she chose them several years ago as a totem animal of her younger line, Miu Miu. Mrs. Prada transforms those furry little creatures into lovely decorations that make every look fresh and ironic. Cult piece: the 2010 Mary Jane platforms entirely covered with kittens.

#3 Loewe

For FW17 J.W. Anderson presents a collection that combines rigorous and modern geometries with more relaxed elements, but the real stars are the accessories. From the models' necks hang original necklaces with big pendants in the shape of cat in white, black and gold.

#4 Marc Jacobs

Cats yes, but in a dark version. For his Resort 2016, Jacobs embraces the black symbol of bad luck in a hyper cool detail. Also in his FW17 collection he pays tribute to cats, this time in a punk patchwork style.

#5 Stella McCartney

An invasion of cats fills the lookbook for the pre-fall collection of the British designer. Between 70s silhouettes, pants, skirts and sweaters decorated with cats and a true ragdoll as a model.
