Interview with Dominic Chambrone
aka The Shoe Surgeon
March 25th, 2016
While the number of sneakerheads is constantly increasing, the footwear market is in full evolution. This means that many of them dream of putting their hands on limited-edition models created by giants like Nike and adidas - even if doing so is always hard, considering the limited nature of these releases.
For those who look for unique pieces it is good to remember that there is the customisation option, and the first name that comes to our mind is surely The Shoe Surgeon. Dominic Chambrone, this is his name, is nothing but a sneaker passionate (read "obsessed"), who managed to turn his passion into a profitable career. He's actually the responsible for some of the most interesting customisations of recent years.
Production takes place at the Surgeon Studios in downtown Los Angeles, and all shoes are made on demand using only premium materials. Any project you have in mind, Dominic can make your dream come true.
We decided to ask him a few quick questions, here are his answers.
#1 What is the best project you've worked on in recent years?
Myself. Working on myself was the "best" project, because thanks to my personal growth I’m now able to create more and more, and better.
#2 What is the strangest request you've received so far?
The strangest request has been the one of Riff Raff, who wanted a pair of neon Jordan glowed-in-the-dark, with his face on the bottom of the sole.
#3 How many hours on average do you spend to create a new product?
About 40 hours, sometimes even more.
#4 I saw on your Instagram profile that you're thinking of creating something new with upper parts from the Air Jordan 1 Banned, can you tell us more about it?
I'm working on the Royal Banned produced with Horween leather.
#5 How many customised adidas Yeezy Boost did you do last year?
Surely more than 5.
