Phoebe Philo's 5 most iconic moments at Céline
Goodbye, Phoebe
February 5th, 2016
Few designers in fashion history have been able to embody the spirit of the brand they worked for as much as Phoebe Philo at the helm of Céline.
Her effortless chic has become over the years – eight, precisely – Céline’s trademark and brand & designer have melted giving birth to a style celebrated all over the world.
But fairytales don’t always have a happy ending. According to the rumours appeared on the media yesterday night, Philo is about to leave the French house, adding her name to the long list of creative directors who, in the past few months, have left the prestigious brands they worked for for different reasons, without actually undertaking a new professional adventure (yet).
Her farewell should take place after the brand’s FW16 show in Paris, scheduled for Saturday March 6 at 1 pm, right after Demna Gvasalia's debut show at Balenciaga.
The reasons of her decision are apparently linked to her private life: Philo is said to be tired of the continuous trips that often take her from London – where the designer lives with her family and where Céline design team is based – to Céline’s headquarter in Paris.
Motivations that are incoherent to the rumours concerning her professional future: last August Page Six reported Philo was in discussions with luxury firm Richemont – Chloé, Azzedine Alaïa and Cartier’s owner – for a position at one of their brands, all actually based in paris. If Alaïa’s style is extremely different from Céline’s one at present, Chloé would represent an authentic comeback for the British designer, having started her career there as Stella McCartney’s assistant in 1997.
While we wait for the House’s official confirmation about her depature, here’s Phoebe Philo's 5 most iconic moments at Céline in the past years:
