Is Sarah Burton replacing Raf Simons at Dior?
After 20 years at McQueen
January 25th, 2016
After Raf Simons' departure from the creative direction of Dior, many rumours have indicated the possible successors to the throne of the French house. Among them Alber Elbaz, Phoebe Philo and Olivier Theyskens.
If the pre-fall, haute couture and ready-to-wear collections for next winter have been entrusted to the brand’s in-house design team, in Paris there’s a growing necessity of a leading person, an artistic genius to whom attributing the merits of the collections seen of the runways. A media figure as much as a creative one, able to represent and defend the brand at any cost in front of the ruthless fashion audience.
The latest candidate to the position seems to be Alexander McQueen’s current creative director: 42 year-old Sarah Burton. A daring hypothesis: Sarah has started her career with an internship at McQueen in 1996 and since that moment she's never left the brand, up to fulfil the most important creative position in May 2010, the year of Alexander’s tragic death.
Is Sarah ready to leave her dear London towards Paris? Is Dior ready to welcome a woman in its Parisian offices?
To LVMH the hard judge.
