A photo journey
December 14th, 2015
The devil wears Prada. The Pope wears Prada, or at least he used to. Everyone who can afford it, does it.
Miuccia Prada has transformed a family business into an emotion, a complex vision that includes fashion, architecture, film and art filtered through accessories, clothing and ad campaigns.
Now the Milan brand opens its archives to the digital world and, from a young and naive Naomi Campbell to a fascinating Willem Defoe, pieces of fashion history emerge, signed by artists such as Steven Meisel or Glen Luchford.
Curious? Here are the most iconic shots.
Welcome to the Pradasphere.
FW 2015 - Some candy talking: Steven Meisel shoots the pastel coloured items of the fw15 collection of the brand.
SS 2014 - In the Art of the Multitude: One collective shot by Steven Meisel, colorful and vibrant, a choral picture.
FW 2012 - Prada goes steampunk: Prada always chooses actors as the face of its men's collections. From Joaquin Phoenix to Ethan Hawke, through John Malkovich, the list of names is quite long. The quartet formed by Jamie Bell, Willem Dafoe, Garrett Hedlund and Gary Oldman touches the top of style.
SS 2010 - First Spring: Prada collaborates with Chinese artist Yang Fudong. The result? Dreamlike.
FW 2003 - The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: Daria Werbowy embodies an elegant and discreet sensuality. Another success by Steven Meisel.
SS 2002 - Femme Fatale. Amber Valletta is definitely one of Miuccia’s favourite models. For the SS 2002 collection of the brand she plays the role of the femme fatale, sexy and mysterious, like in a 40s noir movie or one by David Lynch.
FW 1998 - Angela in the space: Alien atmosphere and suffered poses for Angela Lindvall by Norbert Schoerner.
SS 1997 - Down by the river: One of the house most interesting advertising campaigns. Glen Luchford and Amber Valletta in a series of dark and mysterious photographs. The image of the model on the boat becomes a symbol of the 90s and subject of a dress from Giles’ SS 2014collection. Worth mentioning the male version with a young and fascinating Joaquin Phoenix.
FW 1997 - The mystery: till Amber Valletta and Glen Luchford. Still images that seem stolen from a movie (some say inspired by The Shining): the blond model spying behind a door or walking in a snowy driveway.Impossible not to remember them.
FW 1993 - Please welcome Christy: After Carla Bruni it's the turn of Christy Turlington as the protagonist in front of Peter Lindbergh's lens. Beautiful in black and white, naked, with a cigarette between her fingers. The following season the model returns.
1986 - The legs, the bag and the money: It's the result of the meeting between the creative talents of Helmut Newton and Manuela Pavesi: insolent, risky, conceptual, iconic.
